5 Tips To Keep Your Child Safe When Trick-Or-Treating

5 Tips To Keep Your Child Safe When Trick-Or-Treating My TickTalk

Halloween is one of our favorite holidays of the year–the cute costumes, watching our little trick-or-treaters having tons of fun, and the spooky decorations! Practicing Halloween safety is a top priority for keeping our kiddos safe during the festivities. Here are our top tips on enjoying the All Hallows Eve festivities safely.

Know Your Route

Whether your child has hit the age where they can go trick-or-treating alone (😭) or you still get to tag along, having a plan is the first place to start. Know your route and designate a “Safe Spot” in case you get separated during the trick-or-treater madness. Have an overly excited kiddo who maybe gets too competitive with collecting the most candy? 🙋‍♀️ Use your TickTalk parental control app to track your child’s location if you get separated when they rush a few houses ahead without you.

Stranger Danger

Teaching our kids street smarts is one of the harder aspects of parenting–we want them to know the realities of the world and to practice caution without scaring them. If you are trick-or-treating in your neighborhood, make sure your child knows not to leave with any strangers. If you do get separated and your little one is scared, tell them what adults they can trust in the neighborhood who can get them home safely. With Emergency SOS buttons on the side of their kid's wrist phone, they can instantly call you if you get separated to reunite and continue the Halloween fun.

Look Both Ways

Just because it’s spooky season doesn’t mean we stop practicing everyday safety. While most drivers are cautious of trick-or-treaters on Halloween, be sure your little one knows not to cross the street without you, and if they are going with friends, to look both ways and be aware of their surroundings. Make sure your little angel, hero, or in this writer’s case, little skunk, wears their kid's smartwatch phone so you’re only a phone call away in case they feel unsafe.

Use The Buddy System

No matter how hard we try, a sea of children in costumes is like a real-life Where’s Waldo/Squid Game challenge. Have your child pick a trick-or-treating buddy, whether that’s a friend, neighbor, or sibling, to go on their candy conquest. Create a group chat from your parent app with your trick-or-treating crew on their kid's tracking watches to be able to have check-ins throughout the night if you are giving your child a little more freedom this Halloween.

Have Fun!

Most importantly, have fun while staying safe! Halloween is one of the best holidays where you get to create lifelong memories with your family. Get ready for the night by selecting a family-friendly spooky playlist on their children’s smart watch with iHeartRadio Family.* Make sure your child captures tons of memories from the 5-megapixel Snapshot and Selfie cameras on their kids' phone watch to remember the night forever.
