Communication First vs. a Carrier-Centered Ecosystem
Both watches are safer alternatives to an unrestricted smartphone, but they are built around different ecosystems. TickTalk 6 keeps calling, texting, location and safety at the center and lets parents manage the watch through the TickTalk App regardless of the carrier on the parent's phone. Gizmo Watch 4 is tied to its own Verizon line and is now managed through the Verizon Family app as Verizon retires the standalone GizmoHub app. Non-Verizon parents can still sign in with Apple or Google credentials, but Guardians and Caregivers must move into Verizon Family to manage the watch. Gizmo also adds games and optional AI learning tools, creating a more activity-heavy on-watch experience.

Both watches cover the fundamentals parents expect from a kids smartwatch. The biggest differences are communication flexibility, emergency access, carrier dependence, app ecosystem, device financing, travel and device continuity.
Parent App & Verizon Ecosystem
Verizon is retiring the GizmoHub app and moving Gizmo Watch management into the Verizon Family app. The primary Guardian must set up Verizon Family before Caregivers migrate, and Verizon tells existing trusted contacts and Caregivers to download the Verizon Family app as part of the transition. A Gizmo Watch must also be activated on its own Verizon line. Non-Verizon parents can currently sign in to Verizon Family using Apple ID or Google Account credentials. TickTalk 6 is managed in the TickTalk App and the parent's own phone can remain on the carrier of their choice.
Messaging Without Requiring a Parent App
TickTalk 6 supports real SMS, so approved contacts can text the watch using their normal phone messaging experience without needing the TickTalk App for every conversation. Gizmo messaging is centered more heavily around the Verizon Family ecosystem.
Activation Fees, Service & Device Commitments
TickTalk 6 service starts at $9.99 per 30-day billing period with no activation fee and no contract. Verizon lists Gizmo Watch service at $10 per month with no service commitment, but a standard Verizon activation fee of $40 per line may apply unless waived. Verizon also promotes Gizmo Watch 4 through device-payment offers that can run for 36 months; these are device financing or promotional-credit terms rather than a 36-month wireless-service contract.

We recently got a TickTalk 6 watch for our child, and it has honestly been one of the best tech purchases we've made as parents. :) My daughter absolutely loves it because she feels independent and can easily call or message us when needed. From a parent's perspective, it's incredibly simple to use and gives us tremendous peace of mind. Whether I'm running five minutes late picking her up from soccer practice, need to check in during a playdate, or want to make sure she arrived safely at an activity, I can reach her quickly without having to give her a full smartphone. One of the biggest benefits is that it provides the communication and safety features we need without all the distractions and concerns that come with social media, internet browsing, and endless apps. Upgrading from Tick Talk 5 to 6 is a great decision. The new watch boasts a more robust build and a wider range of features. The strap is exceptionally durable, making it an ideal choice for kids. Additionally, the new model offers the convenient option of a charging power base, which is great.
We upgraded from a TickTalk 5 to this TickTalk 6 and we were floored with how easy it was to port the phone number from the old one to the new one. His new TickTalk 6 was up and fully functional within 10 minutes. The new band is way more comfortable and faster to put on/take off. Locating him seems about as accurate as the previous model, which is pretty accurate and we have no complaints. We are able to set do not disturb time during school which helps him not get in trouble with it. He's really enjoyed being able to be in contact with his family and friends but we have the peace of mind that he doesn't have access to the Internet. Battery life is much better on the TickTalk 6 than the 5, so that's awesome. Overall we're so glad for the upgrades and find that this watch serves our family's communication needs excellently.

I love this watch for my daughter. It gives her a sense of independence without giving her too much access. I can control and see everything and I love that. The watch bands could use an upgrade. My daughter has a very small wrist and the regular is barely big enough for her. It's easy for her to use. Adding app users could be improved as sometimes I would get a failed message. I would close the app and try again and it would work. Over all. We love it.

I bought this watch for my 9 year old daughter as I was not ready to let her have a phone yet.I am able to know where she is and she can contact me whenever she needs to ...that gives me peace of mind.It has good call/sound clarity. I tried the size 5 last year and wasn’t too happy with the waistband—it kept wearing out, so I had to keep buying replacements. But I absolutely love the size 6, and my kid does too! We got the tick talk 6 watch for my daughter and it’s amazing. Shes 7 and way too young for a phone but with cheerleading and school it helps give me peace of mind that I know where she is. I would like to see them add a calendar feature to the watch, so I can set her cheer schedule and other events for the month. Besides that, it’s great! We purchased the Tik Talk 5 for my son to hang out with friends in our subdivision and still have the piece of mind of knowing where he is, and be able to contact him when needed. It was really easy to set up, my 7 year old son figured out how to work it in less than 5 minutes. We have not had any service issues and the battery lasts a few days at least. I love that we can video chat with him, the app is super user friendly to track his location and it even plays music as he’s out riding around with his friends. I recommend this watch to everyone that has young kids trying to give them a little freedom with the piece of mind knowing where they are and who they are with.

We’ve had this watch for a few years. Overall, it’s been very reliable and the tracking is better than our AirTags. The audio is very clear and the video call option is awesome. My kid broke the wristband a few times even though he’s careful, but other than that we’ve loved it.

My family got our first ticktalk 2 years ago. Shortly after we purchased a second one. Both watches have lasted through 4 kids so far. We pay for the extended warranty and anytime there was damage to the watch, it was replaced fairly quickly. Our family loves the ability to give our younger kids a way to communicate with friends and family while not having access to the internet. The only downside to the watches for us is there is no keyboard to text with. Two of my children do not enunciate well enough to always be understood for voice to text but as they got older, it was easier. I’d be mindful of that and definitely pay the few dollars more a month for the extended warranty. It’s worth it.

This watch has been an incredible peace of mind provider as my son has gotten more autonomous and we need to be able to contact him at friends' houses. The locator is pretty accurate as long as you manually refresh it and don't wait for the auto refresh to update the location. Activating the SIM card was easy and within a half hour he was up and exploring our greater neighborhood on his own adventure. The battery has been sufficient for our needs though he never uses the face talk function which drains the battery quickly apparently. It's comfortable enough for him to have on all day at school and because there's nothing on it that would tempt him to play with it, he can keep it on in his classroom with no issues. We love it!

The TickTalk watch has given us peace of mind as parents and our son the ability to have more age appropriate freedom. We can let him explore the neighborhood more with the ability to track his every move. He can safely make calls to the trusted contacts we’ve approved and it also gives him the ability to call us if he finds himself in an uncomfortable situation.
My mind is at ease when my daughter is wearing her TickTalk Watch! I am able to see when she arrives at school and is on her way home. We take it on vacation in the rare instance she gets lost. This watch is awesome! My son loves it and the new level of freedom it provides. It gives me peace of mind knowing where he is while allowing him to spread his wings. We had a few hiccups when we first started with the watch placing him across the country, but those glitches were resolved in the first few days. I see this growing with him as well. Would recommend.

The watch has been great. Easy to use for the kiddo and great interface for parents/caregivers. It would be nice if the straps lasted longer and the charging cord could be available for purchase without having to purchase another power base. I would definitely recommend to other parents as an option for them to communicate with their children.
